Contractors pollution liability.

What does this policy cover?

Contractors’ pollution liability is designed to cover bodily injury and property damage claims arising from pollution conditions caused by contracting operations. Since the General Liability policy excludes pollution liability, all contractors are exposed to out-of-pocket payments for bodily injury, property damage or defense costs. If a contractor can disturb, release, transport or create contaminants, they should consider the coverage. However, most contractors do not purchase pollution coverage unless it is required by a client.

Pollution liability addresses third-party liability claims and clean-up cost triggered by pollution events which typically include chemical, fuels, oils, silica dust, concrete dust, smoke, fumes, vapors waste material and biological contaminants including mold and bacteria. The following trades need contractors’ pollution liability:

  • Demolition contractors
  • Electrical contractors
  • Environmental & remediation contractors
  • Excavation and grading of land contractors
  • Fuel oil/ heating system contractors
  • HVAC contractors
  • Janitorial services
  • Landscaping contractors
  • Painting contractors
  • Plumbing contractors
  • Property maintenance contractors
  • Roofing contractors
